Alina Manolache, a filmmaker born in 1990, one year after the fall and execution of Romanian dictator Ceausescu, initiates contact with individuals who were once lost on the beach during the nineties. This seemingly random appeal sets her on a journey across the country where she engages in conversations with numerous peers about their recollections of the past and present life experiences.
Despite some discussions taking on a somber tone regarding the country’s concerns and the past’s looming shadow, Manolache’s interviewing style remains casual and light-hearted. She features in many frames, gradually creating a portrait of her generation. Though often described as “lost,” this term is multifaceted in meaning. However, it does not negate the optimism and hope her peers possess for the future.
